The Vegetable, Fruit and Medicinal Plants of Edouard Maubert

About Édouard Maubert (Calais 1806 – Paris 1879)

Maubert was a prolific painter who contributed to botanical books as well as horticultural journals. He worked with the leading botanists of the day including Jean Loiseleur-Deslongchamps, Charles Lemaire, Charles d’Orbigny, Hippolyte Jaubert and Jean Linden.

The Groupe Edouard Maubert reports that he lived on the rue du Marché aux Chevaux, near the Jardin des Plantes. In 2009, the National Museum of Natural History in Paris paid homage to this artist with an exhibition of his work at the Jardin des Plantes. This area of Paris also includes Place Maubert which is not associated with artist but may be associated with Maître Albert, Albertus Magnus.

Both the July and August editions of delsc are focused on Mr. Maubert. The favorite of the publisher are the trees of Maubert and something discovered during my research, a Paris map from the 1900’s. I am not expert on maps of Paris but was searching for rue du Marché aux Chevaux. Both the Jul and Aug 2012 editions are now available at amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, and magcloud.com.
