Franz Waldraff

According to Jean-François Luneau’s book, Félix Gaudin, peintre-verrier et mosaïste, Frantz (Franz) Waldraff was born in 1878 and died before 1942 but a relative of Waldraff reports his death to be in 1961 in Nice, France.

Luneau relates that Waldraff should not be classified as a casual collaborator of Gaudin’s because of the number of designs produced by Waldraff. Gaudin also collaborated greatly with Eugène Grasset. Again, according to Luneau, Waldraff attended l’académie de Dùsseldorf and then relocated himself to Paris in 1902. In a 1912 article by Emile Sedeyn of Art et Décoration, the reader discovers that Waldraff formed a partnership with Clément Mère who executed many of Waldraff’s designs. Also according to this article, Waldraff designed for many of the fashion houses on rue de la Paix.

Although the images of houses and flora included in this posting are what appealed to me the most, Waldraff’s watercolors and sketches of Isadora Duncan have also found many admirers. The works created with Isadora as the main subject can be found through searches online.
