Waterloo Place, London circa 1822
from The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics

“The annexed view of Waterloo-Place, and in which Carlton-House is the central feature, exhibits the entrance of the New Street [Regent Street], at its junction with Pall-Mall. That the building should not encroach on the frontage of the palace, an area has been preserved, so as to form a spacious court, in the center of which it has been proposed to erect some monument of art suitable for the spot. The buildings of Waterloo-Place have been erected in a style of architecture adapted to combine with that of Carlton-House, and they are symmetrically planned, to accord with, and include that edifice, as an essential to the general design.” The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics, 1822.
